Hope For Haiti...
Posted by: Derek Spirk

At this time the people of Haiti are in need of FAITH and HOPE.  Now is a time that we are called to show LOVE through SERVING our island nation neighbors.  There are hundreds of thousands of people that have passed away, millions more who are homeless and hungry, thousands of children who are suddenly orphans.  Haiti was the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere before the earthquake of January 12, 2010;  They needed help BEFORE the quake, now they need it that much more.  There are organizations embedded in the country that need our support, below you'll find a few of the hundreds that are there now serving.

They need water purification systems, they need food, They need HOPE!  We  need to support those organizations that are helping provide those services, as well as the ones that are going to be in Haiti for years and decades to follow.  There is no quick fix.  Nothing is more important than your prayers for everyone effected, if you can't give anything more - then just please give those with haste.

Below is a listing and BRIEF outline of what these organizations are doing.  Please help however you feel led.

COMPASSION INTERNATIONAL:

Michael has been working with Compassion International for over 20 years.  We here on Team MWS believe that this a company closely mirrors our own mission statement of getting out into the world and serving those around us.  There are few places that are having a larger impact in Haiti right now serving over 60,000 children.

Compassion is an organization that is on the ground in Haiti right now, sponsor a child, or just give a donation.  You can read about their operations as they have people blogging right now to help give everyone a view of what is happening now in Haiti.   Click here to visit their website.

SAMARITAN'S PURSE:

For over 35 years, Samaritan's Purse has done our utmost to follow Christ's command by going to the aid of the world's poor, sick, and suffering.  We are an effective means of reaching hurting people in countries around the world with food, medicine, and other assistance in the Name of Jesus Christ.  This, in turn earns us a hearing of the Gospel, the Good News of eternal life through Jesus Christ.

Samaritan's Purse has mobilized and is in Haiti right now.  You can support them and follow their work by Clicking Here.

 THE AMERICAN RED CROSS:

The American Red Cross is where people mobilize to help their neighbors - across the street, across the country, and across the world - in emergencies.  Each year, in communities large and small, victims of some 70,000 disasters turn to neighbors familiar and new - the more than half a million volunteers and 35,000 employees of the Red Cross.  Through 700 locally supported chapters, more than 15 million people gain the skills they need to prepare and respond to emergencies in their homes, communities and world.

They are in Haiti, they are serving, and they need your help.  Get involved - Click Here to Find Out More.

CHANGE THIS WORLD:

Started by Merchandiser STUPH CLOTHING in 2009, Change This World is partnering with Food For The Hungry to provide food and clean water systems to the people of Haiti.  It only takes $0.25 to create and ship a meal to a child in need.

It's that easy to participate - A QUARTER - can feed a child in need.

HANDS & FEET PROJECT:

Hands and Feet Project , a 501c3 non-profit organization, is a children's village in Jacmel, Haiti that was started by the band Audio Adrenaline in 2004 The land was purchased in late 2004, and construction began in early 2005. Our first little girl arrived in the spring of 2005, and we now care for 40 children ranging in age from 2 months to 9 years old.

Our friend, Mark Stuart (Lead Singer of Audio Adrenaline) was in Haiti when the earthquake hit and is there still working with children.  He is blogging often as they work to stabilize their community while serving as many as they are able.  Learn more and how you may be able to help.

FOOD FOR THE HUNGRY:

The Food for the Hungry Haiti relief response is growing both in personnel and supplies as the international community mobilizes to bring much-needed aid. FH now has a distribution system in place and is focused on getting needed provisions to target communities, including medical supplies, plastic sheets for temporary shelter, hygiene kits, water purification kits and cooking items.

These supplies are focused to fight infectious diseases and unsanitary conditions which remain a priority concern to prevent further death.  Read about Food For The Hungry and what they are doing.

WORLD VISION:

World Vision is a Christian relief, development and advocacy organization dedicated to working with children, families and communities to overcome poverty and injustice.

Inspired by our Christian values, we are dedicated to working with the world’s most vulnerable people. We serve all people regardless of religion, race, ethnicity, or gender.

World Vision is an organization that embeds themselves in communities in multiple ways and allows you to choose how you want to give to their organization.  Find out one of the many ways you can give now.

This is only a very small listing of the hundreds of organizations that are working to support Haiti.  Also please check with your local churches as most are mobilizing to help.  This is a moment that we need to understand and grasp its enormity.

A group of artists are convening this Wednesday in Nashville, TN to record a song so you can of course check back for more as the song "COME TOGETHER" is recorded, is launched as yet another way to raise the money that it is going to take to rebuild and stabilize Haiti.

God Bless,

Derek

Another wonderful organization for Haiti - 2010-01-25
Michael. Please consider adding Water Missions International to your list. This organization not only is in Haiti providing 5K people/day w clean, safe drinking water, but also do so as lights for Christ. They exhibit true servant leadership and are asking for our prayers. They provide a longer term sustainable solution to clean water than sending over plastic bottles. This charity is also listed as a top reputable charity on charitynavigator.com. Please add them...their site is: http://www.watermissions.org
