The Legend of Mini-Smitty
There once was a concert in Reading, Pennsylvania on October 31st...
If memory serves it was on the Michael W. Smith A New Hallelujah World Tour...
It was the day that Michael Whitaker Smith was to perform, but was nowhere to be found.
It was the first time that the SMITTY EMERGENCY PLAN was put in action. Here's what happened according to a crew member who shall not be named.
At approximately 4 p.m. soundcheck was supposed to begin with Michael W. Smith leading a local choir in a rehearsal for their performance with him later that evening. However, Mr. Smith, could not be located. He wasn't at his hotel, he wasn't in his dressing room, he wasn't on his bus. Nothing.
And so a call went out from Michael's Tour Manager, The Cheech. It was an important call that went out to his Friends Online who saved the day. You see, the tour needed a STAND-IN. We needed somebody that looked like Smitty to perform the concert. The show was sold out, we couldn't just cancel.
That's when Mini-Smitty made his debut. The Friends Online members delivered him just in time, he was able to practice with the band and remarkably despite his "flat" appearance, he was able to muster the power of Michael's music, even if he could only perform songs from Michael's career prior to 1994.

FYI: Michael W. Smith was later located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania attending the World Series game 3 with his father an avid baseball fan and player from many years ago.
(Let the record show the truth: Actual story of Mini-Smitty is that a fan bought one of these little card board stand-ups and brought it to the show - watching Michael laugh about the old picture, inspired some of us, crew members, to have a little fun - so please understand 100% of the above is meant to make you smile and is 100% false. Michael did indeed perform in Reading, PA and no he didn't go to the World Series in Philly)

My wife and I along with friends try and see your performances when you you are near by. We have seen you four times in three years. We were on your last cruise and are booked for your next one to Alaska. The performance in Reading was over the TOP!! Absolutely terrific. The Holy Spirit was obviously present and the worship by all in attendances was glorious. God Bless you all. Michael W., Matt, Meredith, Phil, the Choir, the band and all in attendance. P.S. With the incredible talent behind those drums it would be great if Michael O. were able to sing some of his amazing work as well. Thanks again for blessing us all with your god given gifts.

Thanks so much for taking the time to make your current tour. Was at the twilight of a chapter in our youth group and was having trouble as the teen leader letting go of the past with it's victories and challenges. My heart was tenderly broken again at the concert in Reading PA and refocused on the new challenges ahead as the Lord provides new directions for us. It was awesome to worship with your team and to experience the Healing Rain of the Lord. Been enjoying the music we purchased and looking forward to someday meeting our new Compassion child as we grow together in God's grace.

Amazing Blessing!!! - 2009-11-02
What an amazing blessing it was to attend the Oct 31st concert in Reading! The music and worship was awesome!!! I won a "Family Four Pack" of tickets from Word FM, and was absolutely thrilled when we arrived to have our seating upgraded to front-row center!!! The presence of the Lord was in that place!!! Michael W. Smith is such a gifted, passionate, follower of Christ. It was a privilege to be there and I couldn't help but think that it was a glimpse of heaven here on earth. Thanks, praise and glory to the Lord and thank you to Michael W. Smith, his awesome crew and also to Word FM!!! May God continue to richly bless you and use you!!!:)

So Real and So Genuine - 2009-11-01
Wha a fabulous night it was last night in Reading, PA. It was not only the REAL Smitty, but he was as genuine, sincere, and down-to-earth as expected. Thanks to MWS and all of your wonderful crew for a remarkable evening of worship as you brought the body of christ together in many ways. Our choir and community was blessed by the fact that Michael would take the time and intention to invite churches to come together and worship with their team as a mass choir - a mini picture of Heaven. Healing Rain was pouring down here in Reading (you have no idea the significance of that song here in our city), and we were reminded once again of the greatness of God's mercy! Our only regret - it was TOO short. If not on this side of Heaven - we'll sing together in Eternity. BUT, if you have the opportunity, PLEASE come and see us again! Blessings to you all as you continue your tour. May the Word and love of God continue to inspire you and minister through you and your music as it has for so many years (Col. 3:16-17)! Peace!
