Defender of Faith... Mike Fisher
My manager Chaz loves hockey. Actually, that doesn't begin to describe his passion for the game. He LOVES hockey! While he has seldom missed a Preds home game in the last 10 years, I just never found the opportunity to go.
That changed last year when I was asked to sing the National Anthem for a Preds play-off game. I planned on dropping in, doing the anthem and then heading out. That plan went out the window when, after singing the anthem, they told me I could stand behind the glass directly behind the goal. I have never seen such speed and such hard hitting. Ten seconds into the game, I was hooked! I've gone back and sung the anthem and I've gone just as a fan.
With any sport, you want to have a "favorite" - someone you can champion; someone you can believe in. I met that player this summer during the off-season for the Preds. Mike Fisher was a late addition to the Preds last season and is largely responsible for us going deeper into the play-offs than we ever have before. I knew "of him" because of his famous wife, Carrie Underwood, but in the past few months, I've come to know him as a close friend and as an incredible man-of-God.
Mike is a committed Believer and is unwavering in his faith. He recently had a book come out aimed primarily at youth but that is a great read for any of us. It's a great book to give to any kid interested in sports and wondering how their faith can integrate into everyday life and sports.
I can tell you one thing for sure, I'll make a lot more Preds games this year and I'll be cheering for a giant of the faith - #12, Mike Fisher!
